We are looking for a Senior Systems Game Designer to join our independent studio based in Farringdon, Central London. You will help us to create new games as well as working on our existing title.

Payload Studios are makers of TerraTech, our award-winning sandbox adventure game where players design and build vehicles and other creations through a mix of crafting, combat and discovery. We also operate the Tentacle Zone, a community led developer network.

What You’ll be doing:

You’ll be working as part of our talented Design team utilising the whole range of design skills and taking ownership of core parts of our games.

Your responsibilities will include;

  • Building new games from the ground up as well as design new work for existing titles.
  • Model and deliver sophisticated, interwoven gameplay systems for an open world, creative build/explore/survival game.
  • Own gameplay systems design and balance across our games and act as the go-to person for systems troubleshooting on the design team.
  • Lead multi-discipline groups to design and balance gameplay systems and features.
  • Communicate your designs clearly through documentation, mockups, diagrams, discussions and presentations.
  • Work on prototypes, developing compelling and innovative gameplay by scripting and building new modes, missions and levels.

Required experience and skills:

  • 5+ years of game design experience with at least one shipped game
  • Excellent systems design and modelling skills and experience
  • Creative problem solving and communication skills
  • Experience leading multi-discipline teams
